Afrilaw Attorneys is a law firm with offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt, Nigeria. For the purposes of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, we are the data controller for personal data collected through this website.

We only collect personal data that you choose to give us. There are no accounts on this site, and no tracking or advertising profiles are built from your visit.

When you submit the enquiry form on our contact page, we receive:

• Your first and last name
• Your email address
• Your phone number, if you provide one
• The area of law you select
• The message you write

Alongside that submission, and only at the moment you send it, our server records your IP address, your browser’s user-agent string and the time of sending. These are used to screen automated submissions and to limit how many messages a single sender can post in a short period. They are included in the enquiry email so that we can tell a genuine message from a fabricated one.

We use the information you submit to respond to your enquiry, to assess whether we are able to act for you, and to carry out the conflict checks that precede any engagement. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 we rely on your consent in submitting the form, and on the steps necessary to consider entering into a professional relationship at your request.

We rely on our legitimate interest in protecting the security and availability of this website for the technical data described above. We do not use anything you submit for marketing, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.

We use a small number of service providers to run this website and deliver its mail. Each processes data on our instructions only, and each operates outside Nigeria, meaning your data may be transferred and stored abroad.

• Vercel — hosts the website and handles the request your browser makes to it.
• Resend — delivers enquiry-form submissions to our inbox.
• Zoho — provides the mailboxes those enquiries arrive in.
• Cloudflare — provides the bot check on the enquiry form, which confirms a person is submitting it without profiling you or setting advertising cookies.
• Google Maps — supplies the embedded map on our contact page. Loading that page loads content from Google, which may set its own cookies and receives your IP address.

We may also disclose personal data where we are required to by law, by a court, or by a regulator with authority over our practice.

This website sets no advertising or analytics cookies of its own, and there is nothing here that tracks you across other sites. The embedded Google map on our contact page is the one third-party element that may set cookies in your browser; it loads only when you open that page.

Enquiries that do not lead to an engagement are kept only as long as needed to deal with them and to run our conflict checks, and are then deleted in the ordinary course of managing our mailboxes. Where an enquiry does lead to an engagement, the information becomes part of the client file and is retained under our professional record- keeping obligations.

The site is served over HTTPS, enquiry submissions are encrypted in transit, and access to the mailboxes that receive them is limited to the people in the firm who need it. No transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, which is why the enquiry form asks you not to send confidential details until we have confirmed we can act for you.

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you have the right to ask us to:

• Confirm whether we hold personal data about you, and give you a copy of it
• Correct anything that is inaccurate or incomplete
• Delete data we no longer have a basis to keep
• Restrict or object to how we are using it
• Provide it in a portable form, or transfer it where that is technically feasible
• Withdraw a consent you have given, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it

To exercise any of these, write to us at info@afrilawattorneys.net. Some rights are limited where the data is subject to legal professional privilege or to a record-keeping duty we owe as legal practitioners; where that applies, we will explain it in our response.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a request, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Sending an enquiry through this website does not create an attorney–client relationship, and the form is not a privileged channel. Please do not send confidential or sensitive details until we have confirmed in writing that we are able to act for you.

We may update this policy as our practice or this website changes. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision, and any material change will be published on this page.
